Empty Sanctuary, Sold
Empty Sanctuary, Sold
acrylic paint on canvas
24" x 28"
2018

This painting is part of a on going series documenting my past experiences identifying as queer individual in a conservatives church setting. It was part of a solo show at Boston school of Theology, March-May 2019.

I painted this empty sanctuary at a time in my life that I was processing being back in church. I was setting aside quiet time to be alone to process how I felt, to think, to listen, and to unpack bitter memories of church. This process helped me to realize the importance of self-care and taking time to be still and silent, especially in the midst of these spiritual and life transitions.
As RuPaul says “If you can't love yourself, how the hell ya gonna love somebody else” and take a deep breath.
